VNWC Events and Activities
The Venice Museum and Archives is featuring an exhibit on the Venice-Nokomis Woman' s Club's early history and it's contribution to Venice and the area. On March 15th, the Museum offered a reception for VNWC members. Members who attended enjoyed the great hospitality and an informative exhibit. The exhibit features the creation and maintenance of the first area library in 1926 as well as milestones throughout it's early years. The exhibit will run through the end of July. The Museum is open Monday through Wednesday and Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays from 1:00 a.m.to 3:00 p.m.
VNWC held a bingo fundraiser to benefit Family Promise resulting in a donation of over $6500.00. With 250 people attending, it proved to be fun and a great success. We also had 30+ volunteers which made it so successful. Special thanks go to Karen Troyan who did the centerpieces, decorations and baskets, Cindy McClanahan who headed the food service and Lise Mills, Carolyn Bach Lorraine Finizio who were co-chairs.
The Christmas Gala was enjoyed by all who attended. In addition to good food and even better company, we got to enjoy a visit from Santa, raffle of four money trees and a fun version of Twelve Days of Christmas adapted for VNWC events.
VNWC held a breakfast fundraiser at the Paradise Grill for the South County Food Pantry. We give a special thanks to Mary Beth Hansen, the proprietor and manager of Paradise Grill, who donates her staff, her restaurant and her time, to our 'Grumpy Old Men' waiters and to our many volunteers.
VNWC had 14 members participating in the build of two houses for the Habitat for Humanity Woman Build. VNWC kicked off with the build on October 24th. Builders included Caroline Bach, Mary Lou Belisle, Susan Coleman, Lorraine Finizio, Laura Hester, Aimee Homes (team captain), Cindy McClanahan, Lise Mills, Kathy Price, Laura Robinson and Debra Wright. Tricia Cook, Ira Maddox and Maria Pellicia provided refreshments for the day and Ira prepared the snacks and set up the tables.
VNWC sponsored a Blood Drive in September in honor of Carolyn Redlin. Carolyn is our dear friend and past President. Evidently she has touched many - the Sun Coast Blood Bank was very impressed with the number of people who showed up.
VNWC helped out at the crafting tables for the Family Fun Day at the Venice Art Center held in July.
VNWC supports the Christmas in July event held downtown. The volunteers ride the trolley to provide visitors with water, information and Christmas cheer. This year the Club provided three Santas, Rick Belisle, Bob Lehrman and Tom Doherty, to visit the shops with Mrs. Santa, Susie Zavodnyik
